OUR HALLOWEEN SEASON
I want to start this blog post off with a big “YES, I KNOW.” LOL
I didn’t set out to have this FOUR costumes for Waylin this year, but if I can redeem myself a little bit, I have to tell you that I didn’t buy anything except for the Ninja Turtle costume (read my blog on that here). I learned 3 years ago when she started Kindergarten that you almost need to have two costumes minimum every year because their school always has a costume parade. For some reason they call it a Harvest parade and don’t have any “Halloween” references in there…I still find that odd!
We went to our very first “Trunk or Treat” event. I’ve heard of these once I became a mom, but had never had the opportunity or availability to go. Kids dress up in costumes and walk in a parking lot to each person’s decorated trunk to collect candy. This year, they had food trucks, crafts, and games for the kids. It was REALLY cold, but we enjoyed going!
She ended up going as a “pom pom fairy ghost”…it was very much a hodge podge costume, but it turned out really cute! I made the mask a couple years ago for a Halloween photoshoot that I never got around to. I paper mached it from a beach ball and individually glued pink pom poms on the mask. The hat is also a prop from a photoshoot that never happened! I bought this little hat and thrifted different color jeans to create little denim flowers that I sewed on the side. I have a habit of making things and then not using them! I think the dopamine drops off, but I’m glad I got to use two of these items for a purpose!
I also used these angel fairy wings that light up and move with music that my SIL got her a few Christmases ago. And also a bedsheet!
She got to see so many of her friends and a lot of people liked her costume and wanted to touch her mask!
She also had the option to dress up at her Princess Ballet class. She decided she wanted to be a batterina! I had thrifted the purple ballet dress that she has on! It was such a great find!
We already owned bat wings that happen to match the same color as her dress. And I made bat ears out of some paper and hair clips!
As a side note here, she is still very much in love with her ballet class! I am so happy she has found something she likes within the dance realm as there is so much confidence-building and self-esteem that comes from learning dance. She prances around in our living room and likes to give us little shows which make me smile because she dances with A LOT of passion in front of us!
This brings us to her THIRD costume of the season which was her Harvest Parade costume. She wanted to be a rockstar girl and that included having rockstar hair!
Waylin and I have a long hair journey together as she has VERY long hair that has only been trimmed realistically twice! She loves her long hair and loves a pretty hairstyle. I am self taught when it comes to hair and enjoy figuring out how to make hair look neat! She said she wanted a braid in the middle of her mohawk…those were my instructions. LOL, I definitely was nervous in how to pull that off, but I did!
She received a really cool, VERY ROCKSTAR-ESQUE jacket from my SIL that was absolutely perfect for a rocker girl. I also thrifted the disco ball leggings she had on as well!
We also added sparkle freckles to complete the look!
The last costume was her homemade-ish Ninja Turtle costume, and you can read that here.
Overall, she had a really great Halloween SEASON…I have to call it that since we had so many costumes. I wonder what next year will be like!
Happy Halloween!
