Always Remember

Always Remember

I don’t think anyone could depict the way 2020 has turned out so far. I’m writing this blog post a couple months after we celebrated Memorial Day and so many things have transpired in our country since then. Not only are we facing a complete dystopian pandemic-ridden world with Coronavirus, political debates, Black Lives Matter Protests, oh…and throw in some murder hornets in there too.

I think celebrating America right now can make some walk on eggshells and that’s okay. We’ve never been in a world like this before. While the true purpose of the holiday is to appreciate the fallen that have served our country, I think we all do that by surrounding ourselves with the people we love on that day as a way to thank them for allowing us to be free.

Despite how “free” you really feel during this quarantine, never forget the fallen and the ones that are still making the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. ❤

We spent our Memorial Day holiday sitting in the woods with Ben’s family around a big fire when it was 80+ degrees outside. 🤣 I don’t think most people would see that as enjoyable, but it was! Ben and I purged a lot of stuff from our house during our long weekend and he put together a box of dated paperwork that we no longer need, so we burned them!

It reminds me of a “Senior Burn Party” I had at my house on the last day of high school. 🤣 I couldn’t believe my mum (A TEACHER) allowed me to have a party where we bring all our school notebooks and stuff and burn them in a huge fire in the backyard. She originally asked me how many people were coming and I said maybe 15 or 20, but what she didn’t know is that I invited THE ENTIRE SENIOR CLASS to come over and I said booze was cool. 🤦‍♀️ She had no idea and made snacks and food for everyone and then told me she would stay inside so I could have my own little party…HAH…”little party".

So many people showed up and they were bringing all kinds of things to burn! Actually, the fire got so out of control that it started to burn a nearby tree…OMG, I sound like the best daughter, don’t I? I literally think I just didn’t have common sense, and maybe that’s still not my strong suit. Earlier in the day before people came over, I thought I would be HELPFUL and mow the lawn for my mum so she didn’t have to do it. I pulled the mower out and ya know…in the movies, people pour gas in it before they use it, so I did that. I was smart enough to know what the gas can looked like (maybe because I…uhh..drank out of it when I was a kid thinking it was one HUGE straw…WOW, that’s where my common sense brain cells went! 😭). So, I started the mower after A LOT of failed attempts and started mowing. I was so PROUD after I did one strip of the front yard. I turned around and went to do the next strip and then…literally it BLEW UP IN FIRE! 🔥

It started smoking really bad, so I stopped and started pushing it back into the garage when a neighbor ran over and told me he doesn’t know what I did, but I should not put the lawn mower back in the garage! 🤣 What a sight for my Mum to come home to…1.5 rows of lawn mowed and a lawn mower still smoking. Yes, you guessed it. I put gas where the oil goes. To this day, I make my husband fill up the gas tanks on ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING I touch. I even make him start the lawn mower before I mow. I can’t take any chances, people! I’ve got HISTORY with disaster! 😂

Waylin got to ride on the 4-wheeler and see some wildlife in the woods while we sweated it out near the campfire.

It was honestly a really nice Memorial Day because we hadn’t seen my in-laws or anyone really due to quarantine. Waylin was really happy to see her grandma and grandpa for the first time in months…I’m glad they made the decision to let people come over. We tried to maintain social distancing, but there was no way Waylin could distance herself from her Papa! ❤
